UK Rabbit Hutches has been running since 2012. It was started by a rabbit owner who couldn't find straightforward, experience-based advice when shopping for an upgrade from a basic starter hutch — and has grown from there.
The site covers rabbit hutches, runs, guinea pig homes, kitten pens, dog kennels, chicken coops and pet carriers — all available to buy in the UK. Over 60 products have been personally assembled, used and evaluated since the site launched.
How We Review
Every hutch or run we recommend has been assessed against a consistent set of criteria developed over more than a decade of hands-on use:
- Assembly — We note how long construction takes, whether instructions are clear and whether fixings are included. A hutch that takes two hours and three extra trips to the hardware shop is noted as such.
- Real use — Products are assessed over weeks or months of actual rabbit keeping, not just out-of-box inspection. We look at how latches behave after repeated daily use, whether timber warps or swells, and how easy cleaning genuinely is.
- UK weather conditions — We pay particular attention to how products perform through British winters: driving rain, frost, prolonged damp and the kind of persistent wind that exposes every weak joint. Felt roof condition after two winters tells you more than any product description.
- Value assessment — We score on value relative to build quality, not just price. A £200 hutch that lasts five years represents better value than a £80 hutch replaced annually.
Our ratings run from 1 to 10 and are assigned by James personally. Products are re-evaluated whenever we become aware of manufacturing changes or significant new customer experience data.
